Information We May Collect

The non-public Personal Information we collect may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, phone number, email address, social security number, date of birth, and transaction and experience history with TIAA companies. We may use this information in connection with certain aspects of our business. For example, we may use this information to complete your requested transaction, enhance your online experience with us, or otherwise manage your relationship with the TIAA companies.

We may receive this information i) directly from you (e.g. application or other form you have completed, from information you have disclosed on our website TIAA.org, or from information you provide to a TIAA entity given in a consultation), ii) by your employer in relation to your employer-sponsored plan, or iii) by a third party. In addition, we may also collect information about your creditworthiness from consumer credit reporting agencies and may include your marital status, employment history, income, wealth, credit status, credit history, open credit lines and household.

If you have life insurance, we may have collected your health information. We do not share your Health Information with any other company, including TIAA companies, or anyone else unless we are authorized to do so or are required or permitted by law or regulation.

Cookies

When you visit our website, we may use "cookies" to collect information about your use of our website. Cookies are small pieces of information that are transferred to your computer's hard drive and allow us to know how often a user visits our website and what activities they are most interested in. If you are a participant in an employer-sponsored retirement or savings plan that invests in a TIAA or third-party annuity plan or TIAA or third-party mutual fund, we may share the information we collect with your employer, and its representatives, if any, for plan administration purposes. In addition, unless otherwise directed by a plan sponsor of your current or previous retirement plan, we may also use your Personal Information to market or ascertain your potential interest in products and services offered by the other TIAA companies.

Disclosure of Your Information

We share your personal information with other TIAA companies as permitted by law. We will not share your personal information with any third party outside of the TIAA companies unless: 1) we have obtained proper consent from you; 2) we have a legal right to do so; or 3) we reasonably believe in good faith that we are required to do so by law. For example, we may provide the information to assist us in various aspects of our business, to comply with any law or industry regulation, and/or to take any action you request, including the following:

  • Unaffiliated service providers (e.g. fulfillment houses and securities clearing houses, data processing services, printers and mailing facilities) engaged by us

  • Government agencies, other regulators and law enforcement agencies (e.g. for tax purposes or to report suspicious transactions)
  • Other organizations, with your consent or as directed (e.g., when using TIAA as a financial reference to apply for a loan from another institution)
  • Other organizations as permitted or required by law (e.g. for fraud prevention)

Your personal information is protected by physical, electronic and procedural safeguards consistent with federal and state standards. In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those TIAA employees and agents who need access to offer and provide products or services to you. Your right to opt out

Giving us access to your information allows us to provide you with significant benefits and better service. This enables us to offer you more comprehensive financial advice. Sharing and using your information helps us tailor product offerings to you and eliminate those that may not interest you. This helps us to keep expenses low.

Federal law gives you the right to restrict some, but not all, disclosures of your personal information. You may not restrict the sharing of information about your transactions and experiences with TIAA companies, but you may restrict the sharing of information about your creditworthiness.

Unless you tell us otherwise and opt out,(i) the TIAA companies with which you do business may provide information about your creditworthiness to other TIAA companies; or (ii) other TIAA companies may use your personal information for marketing purposes. If you are a Vermont resident, state law gives you an additional right: We do not share information about your creditworthiness with other TIAA companies unless with your consent.

If you unsubscribe, the TIAA companies with which you do business will continue to notify you about their new products or services. Please note that we cannot retract prior disclosures made with your permission.

If you hold a life insurance contract, brokerage account, or TIAA-CREF fund account with a co-owner, you and the co-owner may:

  • Deregister separately or
  • Either of you can unsubscribe for both of you

If you opt out separately, we limit disclosure of information to only the owner who opted out. If you indicate that you opt out for the co-owner as well, we will restrict disclosure for both of you.

Your opt-out will take effect as soon as it is possible. It is valid until you revoke it in writing. Even if you have unsubscribed, you will receive our legally required data protection declaration.

Children's privacy online

This website is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect or publish information from children under the age of 13.

Changes in our privacy policy

TIAA regularly reviews its privacy policy and reserves the right to change it. To change or correct information such as your name, address, retirement date, phone number, email address, or other personal information, please log in to your TIAA account page atTIAA.organd submit your changes. Your revised information will be effective immediately. If you wish to change your address for fewer than all contracts, you must select 'click here' in the email section of the page.

You can also change your personal information by calling our national contact center at 800-842-2776, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays. (ET).

Note that certain changes cannot be processed over the phone.

Former Clients

If your customer relationship with TIAA ends, we will not destroy your personal information unless required or permitted by law. We will continue to treat your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws.

Internet Tracking Disclosure

We do not have a log that offers you the opportunity to opt out of internet tracking. You can reset your web browser to enable the Do Not Track feature if your browser supports it.

The TIAA companies

As described in this notice, "TIAA", the "TIAA companies" or "we" are financial companies using the TIAA and/or Nuveen brands and sharing a common corporate identity. TIAA companies include the following:

  • Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of AmericaandTIAA-CREF Life Insurance Company(TIAA Life) are insurance companies. They offer products such as life insurance and annuities.
  • College Retirement Equities Fund(CREF) is an investment company that is the companion organization to TIAA. CREF offers old-age pensions.
  • TIAA-CREF-Fondsis an investment company.
  • TIAA-CREF Life Fundis an investment company.
  • Teacher Advisor, LLC, is an investment advisor. It provides services for our mutual funds and personal pensions.
  • TIAA-CREF Investment Management, LLC, is the investment advisor to CREF. TIAA-CREF Individual & Institutional Services, LLC is the primary insurer for CREF and the TIAA Real Estate Account and is contractually authorized to sell and service TIAA-CREF Funds, TIAA-CREF Life Funds. and interest in tuition savings products. It also offers brokerage accounts through TIAA-CREF Brokerage Services.
  • TIAA, FSB, is a state-licensed savings bank. It provides wealth management and trustee services to individuals and institutions, acts as custodian and trustee for individual retirement accounts, retail banking products such as checking and savings accounts, and certificates of deposit. TIAA and FSB customers are subject to separate privacy notices and procedures.
